Potential Encroachment Issue for O&P

We have serious concerns about proposed education standards that could have a significant impact on our profession, namely the potential for infringement and encroachment by the Assistive Technology Professional (ATP).

We need you to make public comments about a proposed set of Assistive Technology education standards that are currently being reviewed by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Professions (CAAHEP). The Assistive Technology profession, sponsored by the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) has published proposed education accreditation standards that we believe would be detrimental to O&P practitioners.

Review the proposed Assistive Technology Standards in detail.

Juvenile diabetes is a serious illness and ABILITY is proud to do their part to support the Nevada Diabetes Association, on July 10, in their goal to educate and improve the lives of those with diabetes.

The Nevada Diabetes Association will use this money to underwrite scholarships so they may attend Camp Buck. At this camp we will educate them on diabetes management with diet, exercise and medication. Many children will have their first experience with medication at this camp.

ABILITY Prosthetics and Orthotics Will be Closed Monday in Observance of Memorial Day

memorial-day-prosthetics-ABILTYToday is a special day. It is a day of honor and reverence; it is a solemn day. Today we must recognize an unfortunate fact of life: our beloved country was formed and is protected by the blood of warriors. As unfortunate as this is we can be thankful, because over the years America has answered the call every time our way of life has been threatened. No one has more succinctly and accurately described what someone puts on the line when they sign a contract to serve in the armed forces than legendary General Jim Mattis of the United States Marine Corps. In a recent address to Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, Mattis articulated, "You signed blank checks payable with your lives to the American people." With a simple analogy he captures the moment of signing, when a civilian Department of Defense employee hands a young man or woman a black pen, in a cubicle somewhere inside a military entrance processing station. You take the pen, and you think nothing of it, because your mind is already made up. Unbeknownst to many, their fate is sealed with the final stroke of that black pen.
